Shadow Shepherds

A ‘Shadow Shepherd’ is simply our word for the style of English Shepherd that we are working to preserve, cultivate and share. Not everyone will share our preferences - and that’s fine! But, if this kind of dog resonates with you, we encourage you to dig in.

Some English Shepherds can be wary of strangers, exhibiting nervous or fearful behavior. Stories of daily walks with reactivity is not unheard of, nor is a nip to the mailman - even after everything from training to socializing has been done ‘right’.

This is a real problem we see for our breed in the modern world, and we are actively working to reduce this behavior from being passed on.

Contrast to the wary shepherd, are the Shadow Dogs we seek. Building on the selection of English Shepherds historically bred for use on midwest dairy farms, the sweet sociable nature of this family line is a special trait not always found throughout the breed. We are striving to hold onto this wonderful type of personality, keep it predictable, all while improving structure and soundness.
